5 Tips for Surviving the Long Journey

To avoid common causes of break downs, make sure your basics are in order. Book a service now to make sure you arrive at your destination in one piece and have your wheels, water, oil and fuel efficiency checked.

A road trip is all about the adventure of the journey, not just the destination. Enjoy the sights along the way. Be sure to stop every two hours or so for a rest and leg stretch.

“Are we there yet?’ Every parent’s worst nightmare, right? Pack activities to keep the kids entertained during the trip and during stops. Toys like skipping ropes and balls are great for rest stops as it gets them moving. Car games, like I-spy and 20 Questions, will also keep your kids giggling throughout the trip. If your drive is especially long, this might be a good time to invest in tablets loaded with games and educational activities.

Have an emergency kit handy packed with snacks, wet wipes and other useful items. According to experts, the unwritten rule to follow when packing your boot is to concentrate the weight as far forward as possible to reduce pressure over your wheels.

Have a USB charger handy to keep your phone and GPS charged and ready to go. It’s also very nifty for keeping your kids’ portable devices charged.

First Car Care College

The STI Group has always had a specific concern regarding the lack of qualified artisans available to the industry, and therefore established its own practical training college: First Car Care Private College. The College is a MERSETA- and QCTO-accredited training facility, and registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training. The company is dedicated to good business practices and has a strong element of social upliftment. To this end, the STI Foundation NPO/PBO (Section 18) was created to fund worthy candidates from every sector of the communities we operate in and serve, regardless of race, religion, sex, or any other factors apart from a desire to become qualified artisans in the auto-body repair industry. As part of our normal operations, we support the government’s initiatives around black economic empowerment, and are a proud Level 2 contributor, with 51% black shareholding. We continue to pursue and broaden our training initiatives and strategic alliances for and with black disadvantaged communities. It is our ultimate goal to expand our training initiative nationally and to raise funding for the creation of new entrepreneurs. Our only condition is to find the right partners in other geographical areas that share the same vision, and will be prepared to match our commitment to the industry and its training, financially and responsibly. Our College, due to its affiliation with the STI group, is placed in a positive training environment, as all our shops are workplace approved for training, and our students receive the ultimate hands-on training that cannot be achieved without the placement of students in a practical environment. We believe that the route to a successful future is through partnership and strategic relationships between all the role players from industry, as well as the various racial groups and communities.
